Presentation transcript:

1839 Abner Doubleday created the game of baseball in his own backyard of New York City. However soon after he created it, he was called off to war, never really making the progress of the game. This is why the fact of him creating the game was debatable as some people believe it was a myth or legend.

1845 Baseball was publically invented by a man named Alexander Cartwright in New York City. The members of his New York Knickerbocker Base Ball Club, agreed on creating the first rules and regulations that were accepted for the modern game. Even though people at that time had different versions of the game, Cartwright was the most popular. He then published a set of official baseball rules.

1846 The first official game was played against Alexander Cartwright team and even though Cartwright ended up losing he still travelled with his team to continue practicing the game. This game was a battle between Knickerbockers and the Cricket Players.

1869 The Cincinnati Red Stockings became the first openly-salaried team and are thus considered the first professional team. The first professional baseball league, the National Association of Professional Base Ball Players, was created.

1884 The 1 st African American in baseball. Moses Fleetwood Walker. He played one season as a Catcher for the Toledo Blue Stockings and played in the minor leagues till 1889

1903 The 1 st world series took place Boston Americans of the American League and the Pittsburgh Pirates of the National League. The Americans won the series 5-3 to become baseball's first World Series Championship.

1904 The 1 st woman to play pro baseball was named Alta Weiss. She was an American Minor League Baseball Pitcher from Ohio.

1929 Babe Ruth, player of the professional Yankees Team makes baseball history by hitting his 500 th homerun and making it to the baseball hall of fame. This also increased popularity out of the dead ball era and rolled in the money. UmR0

1943 The 1 st all American girls baseball team was formed and made it to the baseball hall of fame this was because the lack of male players when WW2 hit. This actually was so significant they later on made a movie about the All American Girls Baseball League called “League of Their Own” 2jx0 THE MOVIE TRAILOR 4Bc ACTUAL COMMERCIAL FROM THE 1940’s

1947 Immigration has merged into professional baseball as Branch Rickey of the Brooklyn Dodgers signs a “ Nergo” player Jackie Robinson, breaking the all white streak. Jackie was the 1 st black male in professional baseball. This lead to professional baseball to be officially integrated. This also has a movie made about it as it is an important part of history. 1948 A legend dies when Babe Ruth ends up passing away when he 53. One of the few professional baseball players that made history at its greatest with his homerun streak.

The Steroid Era 1991 Around 1990’s steroids came into the picture of baseball. In 1991 the law of steroids became strictly prohibited. The baseball commissioner at that time, Fay Vincent said “The possession, sale or use of any illegal drug or controlled substance by Major League players and personnel is strictly prohibited... [and those players involved] are subject to discipline by the Commissioner and risk permanent expulsion from the game.... This prohibition applies to all illegal drugs and controlled substances, including steroids…"[31] Some general managers of the time do not remember this memo, and it was not emphasized or enforced.”( wikipedia)

…Present After the 1991 there really isn't any significant history made that affected baseball besides one MLB team wining the World series each year by making history for there personal team.
