Practical Application of a Kite Brent Littlejohn Christopher Nolan Sean Preller Justin Bernardo

1. Possible Kite Applications 2. Selection of a Kite Application 3. Selection of Kite Type 4. Chosen Kite Design 5. The flight of our Kite

Transportation/Propulsion Kite – Large 160 square meter kites are being used to reduce fuel costs for large commercial ships by 20%. These sail kites are steered by a computer system allowing optimal wind power. – A smaller version of this system could be adopted for personal transportation such as skateboards.

Meteorology Kite Kite would contain a thermometer, wind speed and direction gauge, barometer, and UV index measurer, among other things Would have to be made out of lite materials to support the equipment including a wire frame and lite fabric Shaped in a square for stability with UV index on top and the rest of the equipment residing inside the box along with a transmitter to relay data to the ground

Energy-Generating Kite Will use a small fan mounted on the kite to generate electricity Energy will be stored in a small lightweight Lithium-Ion battery on the kite

Aerial Photography The Dopero Kite design is great for an aerial photography application because of its ability to lift a lot of weight with light winds. These kites can raise straight upward potentially 150 meters in the air making it perfect for taking a picture.

After deciding what the most practical application was for the kite, it was then decided what kite design should be used – Box Kite – Delta Kite – Diamond Kite – Dopero Kite

Our Design We have chosen to use the Dopero Kite design. The is due to the fact that it takes up a small amount of materials. Also, it also is simple enough to be done in our limited amount of time. anos/dopero/dopero_2.html

The Dopero Kite Dopero stands for Double Pearson Roller. This kite is designed by combining two Pearson kite designs to make one large, stable kite. This kite design is typically seen used either for entertainment or for aerial photography. =

The Dopero Kite Cont. It can lift a lot of weight, which serves our purpose of lifting a camera. It is also best known for being an excellent kite for flying in light winds.
