Schoology Literacy Folder Strategies from the week: QFT: Question Formation Technique Carousel Jigsaw Tuning Protocol Paper Chat Four A’s Quick Write Turn and Talks (Write-Pair-Share)

QFT: Question Formulation Technique s/gp/ s/gp/ Used to help students generate their own guiding/learning questions about a topic Good to use at the start of a new unit or introducing a new idea

Carousel sel.html sel.html Multiple texts are provided on poster paper Small groups of students “read” the text and brainstorm to decide on a comment to write (in given marker color) Groups move to each poster after a given amount of time: read text, written comments and respond to either or add new information Can be used to assess student background knowledge

Jigsaw Each student acts as a piece of puzzle: they become an “expert” on a specific topic Students bring their information back to their group to report out Each student’s work and their input is essential for the final product Good for student centered learning (project-based learning, exploring a topic)-reduces direct teacher instruction

Paper Chat Give students 2 texts to choose from to read and annotate Students write a response to a guiding question and also write a question they have regarding the text They initial and pass in papers to be exchanged with peers Repeat steps (2-3 times), having students reread their peers’ annotated text and responses Good practice for close reading, rereading and creating responses & questions
