The Life of Joseph Part 3 – Faith and Circumstances

Genesis, Chapters 40 and 41

Abraham Isaac Jacob (Israel)

Review of Joseph’s Story Joseph was his dad’s favorite. Joseph’s brothers were so jealous they sold him to slave traders who took him to Egypt. In slavery, Joseph rose to become the right- hand man to Potiphar (an Egyptian officer). Joseph refused the advances of Potiphar’s wife, who falsely accused him of attempted rape. Joseph wrongly imprisoned.

Joseph’s business was God’s business, and God’s business was Joseph’s business.

1. Our business is always God’s business (FACT)

Luke 12: 6-7 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Matthew 6:26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Jeremiah 1:5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart...

1. Our business is always God’s business (FACT), but is God’s business our business (CHOICE)?

Joseph was forgotten by people, but never by God.

2. We can be forgotten, unappreciated, or marginalized by people, but never by God.

Joseph’s faith and Joseph’s God was infinitely bigger than his circumstances.

“I have not lost faith in God. I have moments of anger and protest. Sometimes I’ve been closer to him for that reason.” Elie Wiesel Nazi Concentration Survivor

3. What does our faith or our lack of faith do? My faith mirrors my circumstances. My faith soars out and beyond my circumstances. My faith determines my future circumstances AND the circumstances of others.
