Public Involvement Visioning workshops November 13, 14, 15 Planning Summit February 13, 14 Explored the land use/transportation relationship

Public Survey Conducted by University of Montana Shows key priorities of public What improvements they found most important

Public Survey (cont.)

What Are the Best Transportation Improvements?

Potential Transportation Projects Roadway Expansion Bicycle/Pedestrian Projects Transit Operating and Capital Investments Enhancements for other Modes Operations Maintenance Intersection Improvements ITS

Why Are We Here? We are here to define needs for the LRTP in light of what we have learned up to this point. At this point needs may be FUNDED or UNFUNDED. Funding and prioritization will come later in the process What project are defined as “Needs”

Project Categories Current Needs (today’s deficiencies) Accruing Needs (things we will need by 2035) Illustrative Needs (things we will need after 2035) “Parking Lot” (things we probably won’t need, given the public visioning process and land use/development directions)

Where Do LRTP Projects Come From? Have are derived from multiple sources: –Existing project lists from Public Agencies –Envision Missoula –Needs Created by Future Development –Safety Consultations –Other ideas

Project Source – Visioning: “Business as Usual “Future

Project Source – Visioning: “Satellite Centers” Future

Project Source – Visioning: “Focus Inward” Future

Project Source -- Safety Data MT high crash locations include: –US 93 north & south of Missoula –I-90 east and west of Missoula –US 12 from US 93 to Lolo Pass Ped crashes inside city steady to decreasing, outside city trending up Bike crashes inside city steady but high, outside city steady Motorcycle crashes inside and outside city slowly increasing in context of rapid increases statewide

Next Steps Needs will be costed against available revenue to define the “funding gap” Needed projects will be prioritized for funding using criteria from the public survey & public involvement Those with the highest score will be recommended for funding Recommended “service package” will be reviewed for key environmental issues Recommended service package will be modeled with respect to travel demand and air quality
