A big civil rights march through the centre of Birmingham.

King was murdered on April 4, 1968.

Fifteen years after King’s death, President Reagan signed a law making the 3 rd Monday of January a national holiday celebrating the birth and life of Martin Luther King.

Pre-reading Discrimination of people existed at many times in history and in many places around the world. Picture 1 A group of prisoners, consisting of men, women and children, are being led away by armed soldiers. In the background we can see that there is a fire in the city. Do you know why?

From 1933 to 1945 the Germans in Nazi Germany said that Jews were the cause of the bad economy in Germany. Jewish people were discriminated, caught and murdered. More than 6 million Jewish were murdered during these years.
