The Lysosome

Where is the lysosome located? Lysosomes are located throughout the cell. They are prone to shifting towards the cell wall due to some of the functions they carry out. They are little ball shaped things but vary in size depending what they are doing.

What does the lysosome do? The lysosome is used for multiple functions in the cell. It is used for digestion of vacuoles. Also transports undigested materiel to the cell membrane for ejection. Lysosomes also kill and digest harmful bacteria

Which Cells Have Lysosomes? Only animal cells have lysosomes. Plant cells have vacuoles. They have vacuoles instead of lysosomes because they are temporary and the plant may need them immediately at any given time

Fun Facts The lysosome is used as an that trash bin That ejects old or defective organelles such as mitochondria. Lysosomes arise from the Golgi apparatus. They are used also to kill viruses with their hydrolytic enzymes
