Randa Overview Step 1 & 2- Training and Orientation Go to Log in Click on Evaluations Click on Training/Orientation

Step 3- Self-Assessment Click on Self- Assessment Rubric Walk through Quality Standard 1 Complete Self- Assessment by end of September Share or not Step 4- Review of Goals and Performance Plan Reviewed with Evaluator by end of October Three goals this year Professional Assessment Goal Data Goal

PLCs 1.Establish a common set of essential curricular standards and teach them on a common schedule 2.Meet regularly to discuss and examine practices a.What can be done to improve student learning b.Look at data- make use of common assessments c.Look at lessons and adjust them based on assessment results d.Continual analysis of actual lessons and improvement of instruction

Objectives Focus on student learning - What exactly will the students know as a result of this lesson? -Key learning- focus on what is most essential - What will kids know or be able to do at the end of this class period? What are they walking away with? -Is the objective precisely worded so that the learning targets are clear to both the teacher and the students?

Sample objectives Students will write a paragraph giving their opinion on a current event. Students will be able to estimate sums and differences mentally. Students will fluently add two 3-digit #’s with regrouping. Students will be able to state and apply the formula to calculate perimeter. What are some things that make these objectives good? What makes them weak?

Effective Lesson Objectives Clearly describe what a student will be able to do Are challenging yet attainable Can usually be taught in one class period Follow the prescribed curriculum Are written in language students can understand Are communicated to students

Writing Objectives….. Start with the learner as the subject Students will be able to Participants will demonstrate that they can Scholars will be able to

You know it’s a good objective if you can answer this… What is each student going to walk away with inside his/her head that wasn’t there before? It is something he/she can explain or do as a skill

Formative Assessments Write two formative assessments per week to ensure students learned what was intended by the end of class Collect that data Use it to inform instruction

Effective Formative Assessments Are aligned to the class objective Measure how a student will demonstrate knowledge of a skill or concept Are challenging yet attainable Are written in language students can understand Are communicated to students Provide immediate feedback to teachers about student understanding of the concept taught Are completed by the individual student

What is Essential? After we have taught for approximately one month- we are going to look at our curriculum and identify what was/is the most critical content What will the focus of instruction be for the 1 st Quarter? ID what is essential for all kids to learn? Limit measurement topics- not more than six per quarter Focus on Endurance: will that concept provide students with knowledge/skills beyond a single test date? Leverage: will it provide knowledge/skills that are of value in multiple disciplines? Readiness for next level- Will it provide students with knowledge/skills necessary for next level?
