Aims / rationale of our dept planning The over arching aim is to provide course structure which is chronological but retains elements of separation between exam units for opportunities to assess progress. Timescales for planning: Across 3 years students will have a total of approximately 200 lessons in 9 and 10 whether 5 or 6 lessons per fortnight. Year 11 will have approximately 65 content lessons in until Feb half term. Overall 265 lessons to teach the exam content. 20 lessons of revision – 10 lessons/ exam paper therefore 5/paper section.

AQA Paper 1 Assessment Overview Paper 1: Understanding the modern world What's assessed Section A: America Section B: Cold War How it's assessed written exam: 1 hour 45 minutes 84 marks (including 4 marks for spelling, punctuation, grammar and specialist terminology) 50% of GCSE Questions Section A – six compulsory questions (40 marks) Section B – four compulsory questions (40 marks) Plus 4 marks for spelling, punctuation, grammar and specialist terminology
