Let’s review our parts of speech. Nouns —people, places, things or ideas (ex: girl, beach, ball, happiness)

Let’s review our parts of speech. Verbs —talks about actions or existence (ex: running, cooking, is, are)

Let’s review our parts of speech. Adjectives —describes a noun, which one, what kind or how many (ex: that, beautiful, three)

Let’s review our parts of speech. Adverbs — describes a verb or another adjective, how, when, where, or to what extent (ex: slowly, then, here, very)

In each sentence, label the part of speech for each word: James skillfully throws the red ball to his friend.

1.What does it mean to say “exactly what they thought they wanted?” Answer: Each traveller thought they wanted (brains, heart, courage), but really, they already had these things.

2. What is Oz’s plan to get Dorothy back to Kansas? Answer: To make a large hot air balloon and fly with Dorothy back to Kansas.

3.Why does Dorothy not make it back to Kansas in the balloon? Answer: The balloon takes off before Dorothy gets on; she was looking for Toto and found him too late.

4. What is ironic about the people grieving the Wonderful Wizard of Oz’s departure? Answer: He isn’t really a wizard and doesn’t really have magical powers.

5. Why cant the Flying Monkeys take Dorothy to Kansas? Answer: The Monkeys cannot go outside of the area, or fly across the desert.

6. Who is Glinda? Answer: She is the good and beautiful witch of the South. She is the ruler of the Quadlings. She is Dorothy’s last hope for help to get to Kansas.

7. Why do the Lion, Scarecrow and Tin Woodman agree to travel with Dorothy to find Glinda? Answer: They have become close friends, and they want to help her

8. Predict: Will Dorothy make it home? Why? Answer: This is an opinion question. There will be many possible answers.
