Adaptations Plant: Trees grow large leaves to absorb the most light as possible. Bark is thick and heavy to protect the inner core. Small plants grow early in the spring, which allow the smaller plants to get more water and sunlight sooner. Animals: Small animals, like squirrels, gather nuts and seeds for the winter, and larger animals eat as much as possible to store for the winter. The larger animals such as the bears can gain up to 100 pounds. They gain weight for warmth too.

Biodiversity Plant Species: Tree stratum, small tree or sapling layer, shrub layer, herb layer, and ground layer. Also small plants like pine fur and hemlock. Animal Species: ant, bald eagle, beaver, black bear, brown bear, cardinal, deer, fox, earthworm, frog, newt, mallard duck, rabbit, and skunk.
