Value Stream

Value stream mapping 1 'Value stream mapping' is a lean management principle used to analyze and design the flow of materials and information required to bring a product or service to a consumer. Pioneered by Henry Ford in the 1920s, perfected by Toyota. At Toyota, it is known as material and information flow mapping. It can be applied to nearly any value chain.

Value stream mapping - Implementation 1 # Draw while on the shop floor a current state value stream map, which shows the current steps, delays, and information flows required to deliver the target product or service. This may be a production flow (raw materials to consumer) or a design flow (concept to launch). There are 'standard' symbols for representing supply chain entities.

Value stream mapping - Implementation 1 # Assess the current state value stream map in terms of creating Mura (Japanese term)|flow by eliminating Muda (Japanese term)|waste.

Value stream mapping - Applications 1 Value stream mapping has supporting methods that are often used in Lean manufacturing|Lean environments to analyze and design flows at the system level (across multiple processes).

Value stream mapping - Applications 1 Although value stream mapping is often associated with manufacturing, it is also used in logistics, supply chain, service related industries, healthcare, Lean software development|software development, product development, and administrative and office processes.

Value stream mapping - Applications 1 He calls the value stream the process and the non- value streams the operations

Value stream mapping - Applications 1 Value stream mapping is a recognised method used as part of Six Sigma methodologies.Value Stream Mapping Article Source: n=com_k2view=itemlistlayout=categorytas k=categoryid=90Itemid=222#

Value stream mapping - Metrics 1 A key metric associated with value stream mapping is lead time.

Value stream mapping - Hand drawn or software tools 1 One common method to deepen one's understanding of a value stream is to draw a map. In current-state mapping this is done while observing the actual value stream in situ. The value stream maps are often drawn by hand in pencil; the mapping process is simple, real-time, and iterative, as this method allows for simple correction.

Value stream mapping - Associated analysis methods 1 Hines and Rich (1997) defined seven value stream mapping tools they are:

Lean IT - Value Streams 1 In IT, 'value streams' are the services provided by the IT function to the parent organization for use by customers, suppliers, employees, investors, regulators, the media, and any other stakeholders. These services may be further differentiated into:

Lean IT - Value Streams 1 * IT services (secondary value streams)

Lean IT - Value Streams 1 In this way, IT services are tributaries that feed and nourish the primary business service value streams

Lean Laboratory - Identify the value stream 1 Another key Lean step is to develop value stream mapsTapping, Don, Luyster, Tom, Shuker, Tom (2002), Value Stream Management of the overall release process

Lean accounting - Value stream costing 1 Weekly reporting also provides excellent control and management of costs because they can be reviewed by the value stream manager while the information is still current.

Lean accounting - Decision-Making using Box Scores and Value Stream Cost Information 1 The Box Score method is flexible to meet the needs of different kinds of decisions, yet using the same underlying approach that we do not try to calculate a fully absorbed product cost. Instead the impact of these decisions on the value stream as a whole is used to assess the suitability of each of our choices. This leads to better understanding and better decisions, when used with standard decision-making processes.
