ON A SEPARATE PIECE OF PAPER Last week, a Grand Jury decided NOT to indict Darren Wilson on several criminal charges after the death of 18 year-old Michael Brown. Please respond to the following: 1. How are you feeling about the decision to not indict Wilson? 2. What do you know about the unrest in Ferguson? 3. What do you want to know? 4. Would you be interested in a separate lunch discussion about what’s happening in Ferguson?

As the nation expanded and its population grew, regional tension, especially over slavery, led to a civil war – the course and aftermath of which transformed American society. o Key Concept 5.1: The United States became more connected with the world as it pursued an expansionist foreign policy in the Western Hemisphere and emerged as the destination for many migrants from other countries. o Key Concept 5.2: Intensified by expansion and deepening regional divisions, debates over slavery and other economic, cultural, and political issues led the nation into civil war. o Key Concept 5.3: The Union victory in the Civil War and the contested Reconstruction of the South settled the issues of slavery and secession, but left unresolved many questions about the power of the federal government and citizenship rights.

Students will: * Investigate the world by viewing and discussing a crash course video * Communicate ideas by demonstrating proficiency over the content in chapters 15 & 16 via a multiple choice quiz AND by completing a timeline/flowchart of events that led to the Civil War
