TOPIC ULTRASOUND EVALUATION OF SUPERFICIAL LESIONS WITH THE USE OF HIGH RESOLUTION TRANSDUCER

AUTHORS & CO - AUTHORS Dr. Ananda Kumar. B, MBBS,(*), Dr. P.M. Venkata Sai, MBBS, DMRD, DNB, Ph.D,(*), Dr. Rupesh Mandava,MD,(*), DEPARTMENT OF RADIOLOGY AND IMAGING SCIENCES SRI RAMACHANDRA UNIVERSITY

AIMS & OBJECTIVES Evaluation of superficial lesions with the help of high resolution ultrasound and the application of colour doppler for differentiating benign and malignant lesions

MATERIALS AND METHODS The scans were done using high frequency probes in the TOSHIBA APTEX 400 and GE VOLUSON UTRASOUND machines. The lesions were initially evaluated with B mode followed by power and colour doppler. Spectral flow pattern with velocities were analyzed, lesion depth were generally superficially. Recent advance technology like micro pare imaging was used to detect the micro calcification in the lesions.

RESULTS About 50 cases referred to the department of radiology with superficial lesions were evaluated. lesions evaluated were epidermis bullosa, psoriasis, dermoid cyst, inclusion cyst, dermoid tumour, metastasis, neurofibroma, skin ulcer, melanoma, sebaceous cyst, mucocele. Ultrasound could be definitely used to differentiate malignant and benign lesions Ultrasound could also be used for the identification of facial bone fractures with presence of subcutaneous edema in the region.

CONCLUSION Ultrasound is a very effective and useful modality in the identification, evaluation and characterization of the superficial lesions
