MONIZA TANVEER DA MHS BEACH VIEW SUBJECT: SOCIAL STUDIES TOPIC: THE ANCIENT CIVILIZATION OF THE INDUS VALLEY GRADE 6

 To prepare students for intelligent membership in society.  To enable students to understand major aspects of our social and physical environment.  To enable students to acquire skill in:- 1) Critical thinking 2) Analyzing and resolving problems 3) Locating and gathering information  To enable students to acquire desirable attitudes:- 1 Respects the dignity of the individual 2 Work co-operatively 3 Willingly assumes civic responsibilities  To develop listening and speaking skills.

 To familiarize students in exploring the historical, cultural heritage and its stages of changes over the period.  To encourage students to identify gaps in historical and archaeological evidence.  To explore how gaps in evidence can limit what is known and how it is interpreted.

 Students will be encouraged to research on the facts that why Indus People settled near rivers.  They will be asked to differentiate between how Indus People reacted and how they would react if they were part of Indus Valley.  They will be asked to provide information on the evidence of change and decline at Mohenjo Daro in the last two centuries before it was deserted.  Students will be asked to find out about the Indus Valley Civilization from the internet. Activity:- Students will be reminded that the Indus Cities were deserted, buried and forgotten for thousands of years. The task is a project on what was left behind and what survived for archaeologists to find.

 Abandoning the School (Divide the class into two and have the children working in smaller groups on two scenarios.)  Moving the school The school is being closed and everyone is moving to a new building, which has no Furniture. What items would they take with them? Ask different groups to do Different rooms and record the Items under these headings___Take and Leave behind.  Evacuating the school The school building is unsafe and has to be evacuated in 12 hours. Which important items would they take with them? Record the items under these headings __ Take and Leave behind.  Feedback Map what the groups come up for the whole class. Whole Class activities- What Evidence survived at Mohenjo – Daro ? Recap with photos of the artifacts in the Museum section. Ask children to work in pairs and list the materials they were made of. Home Assignment/Reinforcement : Make a project and booklet on Indus Valley. Group activities:-

Challenges A. The teacher will try to convince the school authorities to arrange field trip to Mohenjo daro. The parents may not agree and allow due to security risk. B. Parents may not understand the project work. C. There may be some students who do not want to work together. Solutions A. The teacher will arrange a projector or interactive board so that the class can view Artifacts from the museum section of the website. Pictures will be shown. B. The teacher will create a news letter to guide them. C. The teacher will make them the group leaders.

Class 6 News By Moniza August 2o, 2o11 What happened in class this week:  Students learned about Indus Valley. Civilization.  Students participated in the group activities.  They were shown a movie on Mohenjo daro. What will happen in class next week:  Students will make a project on Indus Valley. Facilitate your child to collect pictures from the internet. Quiz Competition on Indus Valley will be held on September 5 th. Make sure your child prepares well.

August: I will focus on communication skills. September: Quiz competition will be held. October: I will involve students in group activities. November: Education trip to Mohatta Palace.
