Presentation transcript:

We are... a faithful response to God’s call for love, justice and stewardship.

We envision... a world in which individuals, communities, societal institutions and governments all contribute to and benefit from the common good.

Our mission... to promote public justice in Canada by shaping key public policy debates through research and analysis, publishing and public dialogue, and

Our mission... to encourage citizens, leaders in society and governments to support policies and practices which reflect God’s call for love, justice and stewardship.

What is Public Justice z Public Justice is the political dimension of loving one’s neighbour, caring for creation and achieving the common good, and is particularly the responsibility of government and citizens.

CITIZENS for PUBLIC JUSTICE … bringing Christian and public justice- oriented perspectives to the Canadian political scene.

CPJ-mission work in Canada zCPJ was created over 40 years ago by Christian Reformed Church Congregations in the Toronto and Edmonton areas because it became clear that citizenship for public justice requires active engagement in promoting the common good. Christians need to be involved in dialogue with our leaders and decision makers. We need to challenge them, encourage them, support them and work with them for change. zAs citizens, we have the opportunity and responsibility to challenge and encourage our MP’s to take serious action on issues like poverty. zThe prophetic voices of Hebrew and Christian scriptures call us to live in community in deeper ways. It is not enough to be a caring individual.

CPJ In Action Joe Gunn (second from right) with Rob Rainer of Canada Without Poverty, Mike Savage, Ken Dryden, Justin Trudeau and Kelly Law of CWP

CPJ In Action Karri Munn-Venn speaking during the poverty workshop in Toronto

Current Programs zDignity For All Campaign- The Dignity for All Campaign calls for vigorous and sustained action by the federal government to combat the structural causes of poverty in Canada. We want: zA federal plan for poverty elimination that complements provincial and territorial plans. zA federal anti-poverty Act that ensures enduring federal commitment and accountability for results. zSufficient federal investment in social security for all Canadians.

Why CPJ? CPJ's uniqueness is characterized by its ability to play a vital role in the debate around the fundamental direction of our society. CPJ is convinced that Canada needs to engage in serious reflection on core values and their implications for our public life together – the common good. CPJ plays an important national role in linking faith and public policy issues.

Why CPJ? With over 40 years' experience in faith-based public policy work, CPJ is well positioned to play a key role in this situation. Independent, ecumenical and inclusive, CPJ can help fill the growing gap. CPJ has already begun to explore new opportunities for partnerships with churches and other faith communities. Join us as we strive to reduce poverty, advocate for refugee families, fight for the end of human trafficking and endorsing environmental stewardship
