Journal What is your dream career? Why does it appeal to you? (List at least three things about it that you like) Do you think you will be good at this particular career? Why or why not? Be specific!

What is the difference between a job and a career? Which category does you dream fit into?

So… What IS the difference? A job is something we go to because we need money to pay bills, buy goods and services. We accept a job for the sole purpose of obtaining money. We must ask ourselves if the money provided by our jobs creates self-worth and happiness? A career is a long series of jobs that all relate to one another. We tend to need a lot more training to enter a a career field than to simply get a job. Careers are usually life long, as well. –What are some examples of both?

Well, a career sounds better! So why do people work jobs??? Many people do not have career training. –College, technical school… Some cannot find a career of interest to them. People get lazy!!! –It is much easier to take the road more traveled! Some jobs pay better than some careers! –Can you think of any?

How do I know what I should do with my life???? Things to think about: –T–Think about your talents, likes and dislikes. What do you like to do with your spare time? What are you good at? What kinds of situations make you feel uncomfortable or unhappy? –T–Think about your other goals in life. Do you want to be a millionaire? – Teaching may not be for you! If you want a family, you may not want to become a cruise director, since you could be gone for weeks at a time!

Continued… Think about those around you. –Who do you admire? Is this because of the line of work they are in? –What do your parents do? Has that influenced your thinking about careers at all? Do what makes you happy! –If you like to snowboard, consider being an instructor. –If you love math class, what about an accountant? –If you love shop class, why not become a mechanic?
