Key Points: from Importers and Supply Chain Panel Representatives The review had brought clarity to the funding routes and the spending destination of those funds. They had not appreciated the mandatory requirement of all fishermen having to have a Seafish certificate They endorsed the proposal to review this requirement and recognised that this may take time They emphasised that their panels were seeking the best value for their sector, and they recognised the reputational issues inherent in the safety of fishing. They endorsed the proposal that Seafish levy should not be used to obtain grants to subsidise Fishermen’s Training.
Key Points: from Importers and Supply Chain Panel Representatives They supported the concept that Seafish should coordinate grants from other sources for use in the UK industry. They supported the use of levy to coordinate safety training, develop courses, audit and maintain standards. They acknowledged possible synergy on training at an international level. They agreed with shift in emphasis towards up-skilling and professionalisation of the industry leading to cultural change They felt that as major players in the industry they should start including comparative safety performance questions in their procurement decision trees. They indicated that they would raise whether including a comparative safety performance question could be adopted by their trade body at UK and EU level They believe consideration should be given forming or linking to an international standard.
