Pennsylvania Colony Founded-1682 Founded by-William Penn Pennsylvania means Penn's Woods By; Noah, Ashley, and Grace

The First People  The first people were the Lenni Lenape group.  They built homes out of wood and bark.  The Lenni Lenape lived in longhouses during the winter, in the summer they lived in round homes called wigwams.  They planted corn, squash, and beans.  The Lenni Lenape group hunted animals for food.  They were peaceful people.  They were friendly with the European settlers who arrived in the 1600s.

Becoming a State William Penn set up a government for Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania was one of the Middle Colonies. In April 1775, the Revolutionary War began. In July 1776, representatives from the colonies approved the Declaration of Independence. Pennsylvania played an important role in the War.
