Description of Work Objectives WP 8 serves to define the technical content of the VI for contact thermometry. It will contain a selection of guides to best practice in the use, measurement and standardisation and expertise thermal instrument and service suppliers database. It will input qualified data to the level 2 database and contain information relevant to specific industrial areas, standards, reports of meetings and latest developments. The technical content will be reviewed with potential industrial members to ensure that the most up-to- date technical and research data in contact thermometry are available for use by industry.

Description of Work Task 8.0 To compile a list of key equipment manufacturers in Europe and link with the BIPM cmc database and European NMI Web sites; and to gather information related to new standard devices available in Europe in contact thermometry and compile a list of European universities and research institutions with active interest in the field.

Description of Work Task 8.1 Development of tools to promote R&D projects in the field of contact thermometry in Europe. A database, used as a research partner tool, will be developed in order to promote the involvement of SMEs in R&D project relevant to contact thermometry. This task consists in determining the form and the content of the SME database and compiling relevant R&D projects for the medium term in Europe. This task will also include a description of interactive hot line services to create virtual thematic clubs.

Description of Work Task 8.2 To establish database content in terms of equipment and providers in Europe. This database will propose a tool for selecting sensors and equipment for calibration or testing. The software interface will be set up for easy searching by industrial needs. The task consists in determining the form and the content of this database with a view to compiling relevant testing resources, equipment and calibration devices.

Description of Work Task 8.3 An online library of best practice guides will be defined for calibration, verification and use for temperature measurement devices. Technical accreditation rules in Europe will be listed. This project will also cover legal metrology requirements concerning clinical thermometers and thermometers used for temperature measurement in the cold chain of perishable products. This task consists in compiling and selecting a list of existing best practice guides for measurement techniques, standardisation and calibration in accordance with the general content policy adopted in WP 1.

Description of Work Task 8.4 An online library of best practice guides for on-site measurement and special equipment will be defined. It will focus, for example, on areas such as climatic chamber and sterilisation chamber evaluation procedures, and the list of specifications relevant to these and similar devices in other fields of activity. This task consists in compiling and selecting existing best practice guides for measurement techniques and standardisation in accordance with the general content policy adopted in WP 1

Description of Work Task 8.5 An online library of software Validation Tools will be elaborated. A general procedure for the validation of the software used in temperature laboratory & reference data sets for validation of calculation modules will be produced.
