Presentation transcript:

An Architect works to make designs for new buildings and the spaces around them. Working closely with users, clients and officials to make sure that projected designs match the needs of these groups. Architects work on new buildings, On every project, architects work closely with other professionals, including engineers and surveyors, to make sure that their buildings meet the standards. They also work closely with construction specialists on site and oversea projects from beginning to end.

Typical work activities include: consulting with other professionals about the design of an environment preparing and presenting design proposals to the client; using IT in design and project management, specifically software packages such as Auto Cad and SketchUp; advising the client on the practicality of their project; keeping within financial budgets and deadlines; producing detailed drawings from which costings are made; preparing tender applications and presentations; negotiating with contractors and other professionals; preparing planning applications; coordinating the work of contractors; making site visits to check on progress and ensuring that the project is running within the agreed timescale; solving problems that might occur during building; carrying out defect inspections.

I had got work experience with Graham Seebrook Partners and Architects. I had been told by Graham ( who is always busy) about the architects. I was given a task to make a design for flats in Hemel Hempstead which another architect had made a design for previously, and I had to improve on it. I had made the underground car park, the ground floor and first floor with all the rooms inside too. I firstly sketched these on tracing paper as you put each bit of tracing paper of top of each other to see if they fit perfectly on top of one another, They did so I photo copied it, so it would be on paper too. Graham was impressed and I then used Auto Cad to draw onto a computer my designs. I had finished this and then drew the downstairs of my house on Auto Cad.

Working Hours: 9AM- 5:30PM ( I had done these hours but, like everyone else here is 1 hour lunch break, 12:30PM-1:30PM) The job is well paid, with a starting price of 16-20k a year, If you get promoted in some way then you can get 21-30k a year, If you reach a high level in architecture you could get 31-50k a year.

To be an architect you need a degree, usually 2-3 A levels. Usually in Art Science. You need 5 GCSE’s (A*-C), including match, English, Science (Physics).

Where I got info I knew a bit by knowledge as I got work experience and I also got the info from a book in the Library.
