At the Union Tournament we had a great weekend winning three out of our four matches. First up was Sage College (25-21, 25-17, 20-25, 22-25, 15-12). Senior middle blocker Kristen Selden led the team with 17 kills and 8 blocks. Senior libero Amber O’Connor had a great game amassing 32 digs in a great defensive effort. Sophomore setter Kelsey Lawler had a spectacular match adding up 42 assists. Next up was Elms College (25-12, 25-17, 25-13). Sophomore outside hitter, Jo Fier led the team with 8 kills along with 9 digs for a great all around effort in this match. On Saturday our first match was against the host, Union College (12-25, 11-25, 17-25). In a tough match we put up 23 kills and 31 digs. Our final match of the tournament we went up against Hartwick College (25-15, 26-24, 23-25, 25-15). Freshman outside hitter, Rachel Irizarry had a great offensive match along with Jo Fier and put up 10 and 11 kills respectively. The blocking was on this match also as sophomore middle blocker, Jori Belkin led the team with 5 blocks out of the teams total 14. To finish off the weekend, sophomore Jo Fier received all-Tournament Team honors. Our following match was a weekday game against the Pioneers of Utica College where we swept in three sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-18). Freshman outside hitter, Rachel Irizarry had an impressive match recording 5 kills, 11 digs and an ace. Kristen Selden also had a great night. Kristen posted her 700 th career kill for Hamilton. Next up we hosted a NESCAC weekend. We faced Wesleyan (11-25, 15-25, 12-25), Connecticut (13-25, 15-25, 16-25), and Trinity (20- 25, 12-25, 23-25). Against Connecticut it was senior Kristen Selden who led the team with 10 kills and 4 blocks. The defense was led by Jo Fier who had 20 digs in the match. In an impressive defensive display we lost a tough match to Trinity in three sets. Sophomore right side, Alex Singh had a solid match with 4 kills, 7 digs and a block. As a team we posted 68 digs and 13 blocks. After a disappointing NESCAC weekend we hosted SUNY IT (21-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-21) for a midweek match up. (continued on back…)

Kristen Selden 5’11 MB Southborough, MA Major: Biology with a Minor in Environmental Studies What are your favorite things about Hamilton? “My friends, sports, and opus baked goods” Why did you choose Hamilton? “Out of all the schools I toured, this was the only one I truly liked and felt comfortable at. And I still love it just as much now!” What is your favorite part of being on the volleyball team? “They are all my best friends, so I get to travel every week and play my favorite sport with some of my favorite people.” Favorite Foods- “Mac and cheese, sushi, all Italian food, all desserts and especially ice cream.” Favorite Movies- “Star Wars (episodes 4-6), The Parent Trap, Forrest Gump, and Good Will Hunting” Favorite TV Shows- “The Office, Lost, The Hills, Arrested Development” Favorite Volleyball Moments- “Winning our first 2 NESCAC games in about 5 years last season against Colby and Bates.” In a great bounce back Kristen Selden and Jo Fier had an impressive night. They accounted for more than half of the teams kills recording 21 between the two of them, along with 5 service aces and 7 blocks. The defensive effort was led by Amber O’Connor, Rachel Irizarry, and Jo Fier who accounted for 44 of the teams 62 digs. Last weekend we were at Williams College for a tournament where we faced SUNY Oneonta (17-25, 15-25, 12-25), Skidmore (6-25, 15-25, 19-25), Westfield State (18-25, 12-25, 11-25), and Western New England College (22-25, 27-29, 23-25). Though we were down our starting middle Jori Belkin, (she is currently being treated for a stress fracture) we were fortunate enough to have Liz Reid and Leighanne Sherrow recently join our team after being excellent practice players for the past month. In our match against Oneonta, sophomore Liz Reid had an exciting match recording her first 3 collegiate kills on her first 3 attempts. On Saturday against Westfield, sophomore Leighanne Sherrow took over the setting role for Kelsey Lawler. In her debut, Leighanne posted 15 assists and 5 digs. Against WNEC sophomore Alex Singh had 6 kills, 3 aces, and 8 digs. The weekend concluded with Jo Fier receiving all-Tournament Team recognition. In our most recent match we went up against Cazenovia College (24-26, 25-14, 25-20, 20-25, 12-15). Jo Fier and Rachel Irizarry had a good offensive night with 14 and 11 kills respectively. Up next we are at the Keuka College Tournament where we will face SUNY Cobleskill, SUNY Buffalo, and Clarkson.
