Mann Site, Posey County

Mann Facts  Mann is part of the Hopewell Culture, with the occupation of this site around the year 300.  Could possibly be the largest and most advanced Hopewell site in all of North America  500+ acres with mounds  Population is unknown due to lack of research.  Last excavation was conducted in 1971  Current property is owned by 9 different families.

Angel Mounds State Historic Site, Vanderburgh/Warrick Counties

Mississippian Culture  Existed at Angel Site from around 1000 to  Large village site with population at around 2,000 people  11 earth works designed to elevate the elite. Earth works are truncated pyramids  Purchased by Eli Lilly and the Indiana Historical Society in  Excavations since 1939 annually by Indiana University.

Angel Mounds Today  Owned by the State of Indiana, part of the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites  Mineral rights are with the Indiana Historical Society  Indiana University and the Glenn A. Black Lab of Archaeology own the excavation rights.  Largest of the State Historic Sites with 603 acres
