CTAP 295 Teaching with Technology FINAL PRESENTATION Lupita Serna Family Tree Calexico High School, Calexico

CTAP 295 Teaching with Technology FINAL PRESENTATION Lupita Serna, Calexico High School Family Tree My Lesson and Myself: My technology lesson was focused on my family unit. I wanted to give my students the opportunity to use technology to spike their interest, and to enhance their learning. My name is Lupita Serna, and I teach ELD 1 at Calexico High School in Imperial County.

CTAP 295 Teaching with Technology FINAL PRESENTATION Lupita Serna, Calexico High School Family Tree My Expectations: I expected to become more computer literate. I wanted to become more comfortable using technology, so that I could offer my students the opportunity to expand their knowledge through the use of technology.

CTAP 295 Teaching with Technology FINAL PRESENTATION Lupita Serna, Calexico High School Family Tree My Realities: I learned a lot. My biggest reality is that I still have a lot to learn. However, I’m not afraid to ask questions. I feel much more comfortable with the technology I have around me. I’m also making technology more and more part of what I teach.

CTAP 295 Teaching with Technology FINAL PRESENTATION Lupita Serna, Calexico High School Family Tree Successes: My loss of fear of using technology with my students. Experiencing my students personal success with technology. For some, this was their first time navigating the web. My student interest in the activities they were working on.

CTAP 295 Teaching with Technology FINAL PRESENTATION Lupita Serna, Calexico High School Family Tree Shortcomings: Assuming that students had more computer knowledge that they really had. Not pre-teaching the basics in web navigation. This would have saved us a lot of time and some confusion. I could have allowed a little more creativity in the development of their projects.

CTAP 295 Teaching with Technology FINAL PRESENTATION Lupita Serna, Calexico High School Family Tree Students were given a pre-test and a post-test. They each had different point values, but were graphed based on the percentage the received.

CTAP 295 Teaching with Technology FINAL PRESENTATION Lupita Serna, Calexico High School Family Tree Lesson Revisions There were not very many things that I changed in my lesson, or in the actual presentation of this lesson. There were however a few things that had to get adjusted. 1. I had to allow time to teach basic computer skills. 2. To avoid “playing” on the internet, I had to require written outcomes from each group at the end of the period. 3. I needed to adjust the actual group time in class. They needed more time to collaborate as a group. Many do not have access to computers, or have the ability to meet after school.

CTAP 295 Teaching with Technology FINAL PRESENTATION Lupita Serna, Calexico High School Family Tree Concluding Statement: What an Awesome experience. I learned a lot more than I had anticipated. I really did not think I would be able to successfully incorporate technology at this level in my classroom. Much less create a hyperlink on my own, BUT I DID IT!!!!! This experience was very challenging, but also very rewarding. Even though I’m not an expert, I feel much more confident in using higher levels of technology in my lessons, and in everyday life.
