It’s a Small World After All! Colleagues discuss collaborative models and successes : –Dennis Wagner, HRSA –Dr. John Hoornbeek, Director of the Center for Public Administration and Public Policy, Kent State University Opportunity! Dennis Wagner in Ohio for Ohio Hospital Association Collaborative; LifeBanc, HRSA and Kent State plan a local event with Dennis Wagner speaking the next day, but time is short---it’s only one month away!

Rolling Up Our Sleeves Two sessions developed: Morning: focus on the collaborative model, national and local success, how it can be applied to other areas of public health and public policy Afternoon: how can area university/college Workplace Partners help us increase donor registrations?

Build it and They Will Come! Getting the Word Out Dr. Hoornbeek---HR, Ohio Urban University Consortium, presidents, colleagues at other area universities; deans of nursing and medical schools, involvement of university marketing produces features in employee e- zine and front page of Web site LifeBanc—students for organ donation groups, current educational program contacts, student groups, letters to all NEO University Presidents, etc.

We Built it, They Came...and Made it Through the Storm! Good attendance despite a blizzard! Representation from University of Akron, Kent State (Public Policy, HR, Communications, Nursing), Northeast Ohio Universities College of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University, County Clerk of Courts and Adult Probation offices, Akoya Great discussions, ideas and student newspaper coverage of event, including an interview with student recipient

And Our Partners Responded! NEOUCOM—hosting transplant surgeon presentation and looking into adoption of our medical school curriculum Donor drives planned on Kent Campus with Relay for Life Kent State nursing school student projects Invitation to speak to Kent State’s University Staff Advisory Council for next steps Article in Kent State’s employee quarterly family newsletter pending University of Akron’s Institute for Health and Social Policy: polling, research partnership Partnership with local hospital through U of A LifeBanc new student donor registration mini-grants made available to student groups – 2 applications pending Literature in county offices

The Ball Keeps Rolling Collecting data needed for pitching to University leaders Strategizing with the 2 directors of policy institutes (Kent and Akron) Grants/research important Competitions (between and within Universities) More student involvement

Lessons Learned Take a risk---even though time constraints made this a challenge, and certainly not a perfectly executed event, the collaboration and event opened many doors Be aware of the capabilities of different segments of the University and make your requests match Provide relevant data Keep the conversations and doors open and follow up on ideas and commitments
