Most forms of History knowledge and accountability of the ancient Greeks we know is because of temples, sculpture, pottery, artifacts and other archaeological findings. The history of Greece can be traced back to Stone Age hunters. Later came early farmers and the civilizations of the Minoan and Mycenaean kings. This was followed by a period of wars and invasions, known as the Dark Ages. In about 1100 BC, people called the Durians invaded from the north and spread down the west coast. In the period from BC Greece was divided into small city states, each of which consisted of a city and its surrounding countryside.

The Dark Age The Trojan War probably brought on lots of wars in Greece. Greek towns fought among them- selves, but wandering tribes from the north also invaded Greece. One group were the Durians. The Durians colonized the lower part of Greece and some of the islands. By 1000 BC Mycenaean cities were abandoned and their palaces were destroyed. Greece was in a period of decline known as the Dark Age.

The Trojan War Troy was an ancient city located in present-day Turkey. The Greeks started a war against people of Troy that went on for 10 years and the Greeks carried on the whole time. In the final year, the Greeks put on a surprise attack on the Trojans. They brought a horse outside the gates and the Trojans dragged it inside of their gates and the Greeks jumped off the horse and attacked the Trojans and burned the city down. Date: 1200 BC

Independence of Greece Greece won independence with sovereignty guaranteed by Britain, France, and Russia.
