Welcome to Mrs. Lewis’ Classroom

EXPECTATIONS

Expectation #1 Be prepared for class! (always have something to write with, something to write on, any work due, and any book we may be reading.)

Expectation #2 Don’t have any food or drink inside the classroom other than water. (This includes candy, sunflower seeds, juice, etc.)

Expectation #3 Be respectful to the teacher and your classmates. (Specifically, don’t interrupt or distract the teacher or others when they are speaking, don’t put your things away before the class is over, and don’t put your head down!)

Expectation #4 Try your best! (put forth effort, stay on task, pay attention, work well in groups, complete your work, and participate when called upon.)

Expectation #5 Obey all school rules and follow all school policies. (Tardy Policy, Cell Phone Policy, Dress Code, Plagiarism, etc.)

Materials and lunch detention

Procedures Opening Assignments: – Start on the opening assignment when you enter the room. – Use only the clicker assigned to you and gently put it back when finished (if we are using them). – Passages for opening assignments can be found in the folders on the side of the cabinet.

Procedures Reflection Wall -You will be periodically asked to complete reflections regarding the lesson for the day. You are expected to always put your name on the back of your post-it, answer honestly, and post the the correct side of the wall. Although these are not for a grade, they are a fast way to check your comprehension, so you must complete them.

Procedures Makeup Work -If you are absent, it is your responsibility to check the makeup work calendars and drawers for any missed assignments. -You will have the same amount of days you were absent to turn in the missed material.

Procedures TURNING IN WORK – All work is to be turned into the appropriate tray for your class period. – Check behind the door if you think you have turned in a paper without a name. Simply place your name on the paper and turn it back in to get your grade. – Papers being passed in are always passed up and to the right. The person in the front of the farthest right row will turn the papers in to the teacher.

Procedures Tardies - If you are tardy for my class, you are expected to quietly enter the room, sign the tardy sheet, and quickly get to work. -After three tardies, you will receive a discipline referral.

Procedures Passes You receive 8 classroom passes per semester. These passes can be used for anything from going to the bathroom, taking something to the attendance office, forgetting your book in your locker, not having pencil/paper, etc. -Once all 8 passes are gone, your repetitive behavior will result in write-ups and lunch detention. -To use a pass, date by your name in the corresponding column to how many you have used on your class’ clipboard. -If you are leaving the room, be sure to fill out the hall pass and carry it with you. -Going to the nurse does not count as a pass, but you must fill out a nurse’s form and have me sign it.

Procedures Textbooks 1 st and 4 th Periods: You will use a textbook from the shelf each day as needed. You must take care of the textbook as if it were your own. At the end of class, you will return the book to the appropriate shelf in an orderly fashion.

Procedures Book Check Out -You are more than welcome to browse and borrow any of the books in this class throughout the year. Be sure to sign books in and out on the clipboard. The teacher needs to sign too!

Procedures DARTS, Focus Wall, Announcements -Check the DARTS board to find out what the learning targets are for the day! -Check the Focus Wall for notes and important concepts we are currently learning about! -Check the Announcements board for any current and important JAGUAR info!

Procedures iLamp -Red – absolutely no electronic devices turned on. -Yellow – electronic devices may be used while students are on task and focused. -Green – you may use your electronic devices.

Procedures Testing Center The NLHS testing center is open certain days of the week for students wishing to retake exams in order to obtain higher scores. You will need to use the calendar on the computer in the back of the room if you wish to makeup or retake a quiz or test for this class. You will also need to check with the teacher to find out what you need to do to score higher.
