Presentation transcript:

 Our solar system is really big.  There are 8 planets and 1 dwarf planet.  Our galaxy is the Milky Way.

 Our sun is the biggest star in our galaxy.  You can’t look straight at the sun without hurting your eyes.  The sun is very bright.

 Mercury is about the size of the Earth’s moon.  Mercury is the closest planet to the sun.  It is still 58 million kilometers away from the sun.

 Venus is about the same size as Earth.  It is the third brightest object in Earth’s sky.  Only the sun and the moon appear brighter.

 Earth is the planet we live on.  Earth is also the only planet that has living people on it.  Earth is the biggest inner planet.

MMars is called the red planet because it is a fiery red color. MMars is small. TThe diameter is half of Earths.

 The asteroid belt is made of tiny little rocks.  The asteroid belt is in the middle of the inner and outer planets.  It is really big.

 Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system.  The diameter of Jupiter is 11times more than earths.  For 300 years there’s been a hurricane on Jupiter that is called the great red spot.

 Saturn has rings that are visible from Earth.  Saturn is similar to Jupiter but much smaller.  It spins fast in space.

 Uranus is a gas planet.  Uranus rotates on its side and orbits the sun.  Uranus has at least 27 moons.

 Neptune's atmosphere is mainly hydrogen and helium.  It is one of the windiest places in our solar system.  The wind speed can reach to 2000 kilometers per hour.

 Pluto is the smallest planet in our solar system.  Tiny Pluto has a rocky surface.  Pluto is not a planet anymore. It is a dwarf planet.

 A galaxy is a huge system of gases, dust, and stars.  We live in a galaxy called the Milky Way.  A galaxy can have planets.

 A telescope is an object you can see out of.  It is used to see far away.  Scientists use telescopes to see in space.  You will need a special telescope to see in space.

 Stars are huge bright things in the sky.  There is about billions of stars in the sky.  Stars only come out at night.

 Constellation is a pattern of stars  People use constellation for landmarks.  For many years sailors used constellation to find their way.

 A universe is everything that exist in space.  There is millions of galaxies in the universe.  The universe is a big place.

 There are 4 inner planets.  Inner planets are the ones that are before the asteroid belt.  The 4 inner planets are Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Earth.

 There are 4 outer planets.  Outer planets are the planets on the other side of the asteroid belt.  The 4 outer planets are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.

 A axis is a imaginary line that goes through a planet.  Earth has a axis.  The axis in Earth is tilted and the tilt causes the 4 seasons.

CComets are a ball of ice, gases, and rock. SSome comets, like Halley’s comet become well known because their orbits bring them close to Earth.

 There are many kinds of moon phases.  There are 10 moon phases.
