Attila İLHAN

When Attila İlhan started the adventure of writing novels, he was analyzing the city people and the closest historical period of Turkey with their political, economic, and social aspects. However; the other writers of his period were writing and working on local and rural events and characters.

Not only was Attila İlhan writing about the largest cities’ (like İstanbul, İzmir) living standards, economic and social problems in the eyes of the book characters, but also he mentioned the positive and negative effects of Western culture on Turkey. He was quite successful in overlapping his characters with European cities.

The literary period which is defined as the writer's maturity period starts with his book ' Table of Wolves'. In 'The Man in the Street' a man who knows what he doesn’t want rather than what he wants is described. In ‘Black People Don’t Resemble' the character, Mehmet Ali hesitates between his desires and dislikes. However; in the book “Table of Wolves”' Mahmut is a character that knows his desires very well.

In these three novels, Attila İlhan works on the Turkish intellectuals in different point of views. He gathers his ideas in a dialectic and materialist synthesis. Later, he suggests a synthesis for Turkey. The series “The Things Inside the Mirror” is written on this basis.

'Nib of Knife', 'Hyena Share', 'We in that Darkness', 'Morning Ezans in Dersaadet' are the novels forming the series - “The Things Inside the Mirror”. In this series the historical events are described with political and social balances. The events are explained through the observations of the characters. In this series Turkish intellectuals have an opportunity to comprehend and search their closest history.

The other significant book of Attila İlhan is “Table of Wolves””. We can summarize the main points of the book as follows: The main theme is ; Capitalism and its developing process in Turkey. Principally; social and economic formations are laid out by reevaluating the history. Especially social events are displayed via taking capitalism into account.

As we begin to read the protagonist Mahmut in “Table of Wolves”, we can get more information about Attila İlhan’s point of view. The other characters; Ümid,Akın, Seyit and Sabri are supporters of Capitalist time. These people are dependant on others and Mahmut is murdered because of attempting to reveal bribery and corruption.
