Common and Proper Nouns
DAY 1 Noun – names a person, place, thing, or idea. Ex. The girl went into the house. Common noun- names any person, place, thing, or idea, and is not capitalized. Ex. The teacher traveled last week. Proper noun - names a specific person, place, thing, or idea. Days of the week, months, and holidays are examples of proper nouns. Ex. Julia ran a race last Monday.
QUESTION: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A COMMON NOUN AND PROPER NOUN?
Concrete and Abstract Nouns
DAY 2 Concrete noun – names something you can see, feel, hear, smell, or taste. Ex. The pizza is delicious. Abstract noun – names an idea, or something cannot be seen, felt, heard, smelled, or tasted. Ex. Her dream was amazing. The week went by quickly.
Mechanics and Usage: Capital letters, Abbreviations, and Colons in Business Letters
DAY 3 In the beginning of a business letter, capitalize the salutation, the person’s name, and his or her abbreviated title, as in Dear Dr. Jones Use a colon after the salutation of a business letter. Use a comma after the closing. Refer to pages 475 and 477 of your Grammar Handbook.
