Formative& Summative Formative Activities are evidence we collect about our students’ progress while learning is taking place. These activities are used to inform instruction throughout the learning process. Summative Activities are evidence we collect about our students’ skills and knowledge after learning has taken place.

Grading Practices Reading, Math and Writing 75% Summative Activities Summative Activities will be consistent across all grade level teachers Grey scale items in this category are Formative in nature, do not count towards the grade, but are entered to give you feedback regarding progress 25% Classwork/Homework These activities will be selected by the teacher to address the needs of the students in each individual classroom

Assessment Re-take Policy Students will retake Math & ELA Outcome Assessments if their scores are below 80% If below 80%, teacher will reteach necessary skills before the test retake The highest score that can be earned on a retake is 80%.

ELA Unit Design – What Parents Should Know 1 Unit Per Quarter – Specific Theme Purposefully designed to “Start With The End In Mind” Standards aligned, including a variety of Formative and Summative Assessments Implemented consistently across all 11 teachers at the grade level Reading, Language Arts, & Writing will fall under 1 category on the report card.

Catch-up Club The purpose of the Club is to provide an opportunity for students to rectify the occasional homework mishap. We will monitor use of the club, and parents will be notified if a student takes advantage of this opportunity.

Ms. Bridges’ Classroom Management “ Catching Compliments” We work as a team to earn compliments in and outside the classroom. Each time we earn 25 compliments we earn a small reward. 100 compliments earns us a big reward! Put your best stripes forward! Be responsible, respectful, and caring. We have a clip system in the classroom. Students going above and beyond will move up on our chart. Students that need reminders about expected behaviors vs. unexpected behaviors can move down the chart. Those that improve their behavior may move back up. Repeated unexpected behaviors will receive a parent call home.

Make-Up Work If a student is absent, he/she will bring home a “We Missed You” page with activities and assignments listed for the days absent. A completion date will be written at the top of the page. The date will vary due to the type of work and how long the student has been absent.
