What’s Wind Power? Wind power is created by turning wind turbines, which generate electricity.

How it Works Wind Turbines stand high off the ground considering the air movement (wind) is more powerful and the speeds are generally faster As the wind hits the blades of the turbines the pitch of the blades force the blades to rotate through the air (spin) From this process, inside of the turbine there are cranks and a generator to transfer the turning of the turbine into energy

Advantages Wind Power is “free” and with modern technology can be captured efficiently After the turbine is built it does not create any green house gases or pollution Wind turbines do not take up much space and the land beneath and near the turbines can still be used, and people find them as an interesting feature to a landscape

Disadvantages Wind turbines generate much less energy than fossil fuels typically do The construction of the turbines can be very expensive and can disrupt the environment Wind can be very unreliable and the speeds of the wind vary significantly

Future Endeavors New turbines are being designed to make wind turbines more efficient in generating electricity Although many people feel that the turbines are ugly and do not want them near their homes, more and more projects are being proposed such as on Cape Cod
