The Liaison Role Liaisons serve as a touch point for a category of groups in order to familiarize them with: o programming resources o leadership development opportunities o university policies Your liaison can provide information about: o upcoming leadership opportunities o SIL events/trainings/programs o efforts to recognize groups in your category o relevant information specific to your category

What is SIL? Student Involvement and Leadership (SIL) is a resource center for involvement and leadership at Washington University in St. Louis for students, faculty, and staff.

SIL Mission Empowering students to become remarkable leaders. We accomplish this mission through: Promoting involvement in the campus community Providing programs and support within involvement and engagement, diversity and inclusion, and leadership development Advising students and student organizations Creating innovative leadership development opportunities Supporting students and organizations when training leaders, planning events, and advocating Advocating with students for more just and inclusive communities

Contracts 101 A contract is required any time a student group enters into an agreement with an individual or company to perform a service, whether or not money is exchanged for that service. The University Contract is always preferred. To protect students from liability, all contracts processed through Student Union must first be reviewed and then signed by a SIL staff member. Vendors signs first. Students may not pay for serves out of pocket. A W9 form must be completed by vendor and submitted with contract. Simple University Contracts that are correctly filled out can be turned in to be signed without an Advisor of the Day meeting. You can always meet with an Advisor to discuss a contract. Contracts must be brought to an Advisor at least 15 days before the event.

Contracts 101 Non University Contracts: Sometimes required by performers Some performers require offer letter first 2% Missouri tax on out of state performers May require physical markups Further costs may be incurred Process timeline is extended – may take more than the 15 days minimum Must meet with an Advisor of the Day

Inclusive Programing Guidelines for Responsible and Inclusive Programming by Students and Student Groups o Auctions, Party Themes and Costumes, Food Related Contests/Events SU/DAC/CDI Everyone’s Welcome Campaign o A fund created by students to incentivize collaboration between student groups, as well as the four values of the Center for Diversity and Inclusion. o Applications are due the first Friday of each month, and will be reviewed by members from SU, the DAC and the CDI.

Involvement and Leadership Opportunities UtenSIL One hour workshops to put in your Leadership toolbox. Bi-weekly throughout semester Destination Q A retreat for LGBTQIA* students, looking at leadership through the lens of community with small groups, learning partners, and a full community group Application Deadline: Sep. 10 Retreat: Sep. 19 – 20 Greek Emerging Leaders A six week leadership development opportunity for rising leaders within the Greek community. Application Deadline: Sep. 22 Leadershape Week-long program that challenges participants to Lead with Integrity™ while working towards a vision grounded in their deepest values. Application Deadline: Feb. 7 Retreat: Mar. 13 – 18 Men’s Project Six week dialogue series for men to explore their gender identity and masculinity performance. Application Deadline: Sep. 27 Retreat: Oct. 3 – 4 Excellence in Leadership Awards Annual awards ceremony to recognize student leaders and student groups who demonstrate excellence in leadership. Sunday, May 1, 7–8:30pm, Holmes Lounge Nominations: Feb. 2 – Mar. 28 Emerging Leaders 7 week leadership development experience for first year WU students. Application Deadline: Oct. 25 Redefining Community Experience 3 day off-campus retreat to build community through dialogue about diversity, leadership, and identity. Retreat: TBD
