Introduction Our Goal: Develop well workplaces/communities. Today’s Objective: Provide you with whatever knowledge, skill, resource you need to move toward your goal.

We Need to Know …. Who you are? –Name, org., position Where your organization/community is in the process of change? –Pre-contemplative, contemplative, preparation, action, maintenance Why you are here? –What do you want to learn, do, get?

Agenda Best Advice. Why wellness? How to get commitment? How to involve & motivate others? Planning to achieve outcomes. What to measure? Maintaining commitment & interest.

“Best Advice” “Best Advice” Integrate the wellness strategy into the organization/community business objectives. Design a preventative strategy that will change the individuals/org./community Problem solve to overcome your barriers using the best resources possible. Design evaluation process to show progressive improvements over time.

Common Understanding Difference between wellness, health promotion, work-life ……? I don’t care! –Use what works for you/your org,/your client. What is important? –that there is an common understanding of what it is to you/your org./client. What do you call it? –Write down what it is to you using one - three word descriptors on participant Worksheet # 1 What are the major components?

Why Wellness? Business Objectives that wellness can help achieve: –Health Enhancement –Cost containment/reduction –Employee/member satisfaction –Customer loyalty –Productivity –Absence management –Recruitment/retention –Image –Others?

Business Objectives Does your org have an annual operating plan? Do you know what it is? Do you know when and how it is developed? Who allocates the resources required to achieve these objectives? Are you/your dept. expected to help contribute to achieving these objectives?

Group Exercise - Worksheet # 2 Write one 2003/04 business objective for your org. Discuss how wellness can help your organization achieve this objective. Write it as a program goal. Key Message. Identify Organizational Drivers.

Getting Commitment Can you convince senior ex. that wellness can achieve these business objectives? YesNoDon’t Know How? –Business case. Current status. Group Exercise - Worksheet # 3 Choose an outcome goal and determine how you would: –illustrate current status. –national/industry/healthy norm. –estimate probable degree of success. –calculate potential outcome for your org. –compare it to outcome if nothing is done.
