December 10, 2014 Happy Humpday – the penultimate Humpday of first semester!Humpday

December 10, 2014  Class starter – listen to the two songs: “Share the Land,” by The Guess Who, and “Anything You Can Do,” by Irving Berlin, and compare/contrast the themes of the songs, both to each other and to Anthem.

Share the Land  Have you been around Have you done your share of coming down On different things that people do Have you been aware You got brothers and sisters who care About what’s gonna happen to you In a year from now...  Maybe I’ll be there to shake your hand Maybe I’ll be there to share the land That they’ll be giving away When we all live together.

Share the Land  Did you pay your dues Did you read the news This morning when the paper landed in your yard Do you know their names Can you play their games Without losing track And coming down a bit too hard...  Shake your hand, share the land Shake your hand, share the land You know I’ll be standing by To help you if you worry....

Anything You Can Do  Anything you can do I can do better  I can do anything better than you.  No you can’t. Yes I can.   Anything you can be I can be greater.  Sooner or later I’m greater than you.  No you’re not. Yes I am.   I can shoot a partridge with a single cartridge.  I can shoot a sparrow with a bow and arrow.  I can live on bread and cheese.  And only on that? Yes. So can a rat! 

Anything You Can Do  Any note you can sing I can sing higher.  I can sing any note higher than you.  No you can’t. Yes I can.  (How do you sing that high? I’m a girl!)   Anything you can say, I can say softer.  I can say anything softer than you.  No you can’t. Yes I can.   I can drink my liquor faster than a flicker  I can drink it quicker, and get even sicker.  I can open any safe. Without being caught?  You bet! That’s what I thought, you crook! 

Anything You Can Do  Any note you can hold, I can hold longer.  I can hold any note longer than you.  No you can’t. Yes I can.  Yes you can! Where do you keep all that air? (ugh!)   Anything you can say, I can say faster.  I can say anything faster than you.  No you can’t. Yes I can. 

Anything You Can Do  I can jump a hurdle. I can wear a girdle.  I can knit a sweater. I can fill it better.  I can do most anything.  Can you bake a pie? No. Neither can I.   Anything you can sing, I can sing sweeter.  I can sing anything sweeter than you.  No you can’t. Yes I can.

December 10, 2014  Check study guides, Anthem chapter 11.  Read chapter 12 (finish the book!) for tomorrow.  Study guide due and Anthem unit test on Friday.  Deadline for turning in banquet pics on Friday.  2 nd quarter binder check Monday 12/15. Checklist tomorrow.
