Peru The Locations and attractions of Peru

Tourism in Peru Tourism is the third largest industry in Peru (fishing and mining being the two larger than it). The main factors of tourism contributing to this being, archaeological attractions, ecotourism in the Peruvian rainforests, gastronomic tourism and adventure tourism.

Archaeological attractions Peru is one of the oldest civilizations in the world. Meaning the country is home to a variety of archaeological sites (e.g. Machu Picchu, Chan Chan, Sipan), giving us an insight on the lives of our early ancestors. This is one of the main reasons tourists come to Peru.

Adventure tourism Adventure tourism is also a large factor in the tourism in Peru. Many people come to Peru in search of a new experience, and seeing as Peru is an extremely beautiful and unique location it attracts a huge amount of tourists in search of adventure.

Gastronomic tourism Peruvian food has many influences from early Incan civilization, Asia, west Africa etc. This wide range of cultural influences may pose as an incentive to travel to Peru for the food.

Cultural tourism Cultural tourism is a big influence. Many people travel here to experience the locals and observe the lives of the wonderfull people here.

ecotourism Ecotourism in Peru is an amazing productive practice. Due to the decline in rainforest in the past 100 years because of deforestation, people have been trying to find a way to exploit wealth from the rainforests without harming it. Ecotourism is the answer to this. Making tourists pay for trips round rainforests such as the Amazon.
