ISOFIX FRENCH PROPOSAL (DOCUMENTS TRANS/WP29/GRSP/2001/14Rev1; 2001/15Rev1 and 2001/16Rev1) GRSP 13-17/05/2002

MAIN PRINCIPLES    ISOFIX "universal" type : Forward Facing Child Restraint System (CRS) with two low anchorages + top tether.    ISOFIX "semi-universal" : Forward or Rearward Facing Child Restraint System with two low anchorages and other(s) anti- rotation device(s) (legform, lower tether,…).    Keep the current R 44 criteria (dummies and criteria, pulse,…).    Only M1 vehicle type have to be equiped with anchorages.    To guarantee the setting of ISOFIX CRF in the car (fixtures)

GRSP 13-17/05/2002 PROVISIONS REQUIRED FOR CAR (1)    2 ISOFIX positions (3 anchorages) for any M1 vehicle, except for M1 with only 1 seat row (no ISOFIX position is required).    Each ISOFIX position shall permit the installation of fixture(s)    1 ISOFIX position has to be installed at the second seat row.    ISOFIX position not located on a vehicle seat is allowed.    Integrated "build in" CRS are taken into account for the 2 ISOFIX positions to be provided.

GRSP 13-17/05/2002 PROVISIONS REQUIRED FOR CAR (2)    Instructions for ISOFIX anchorages and restrictions for seat adjustment have to be indicated in the vehicle handbook    Post-equipment anchorages have to fulfil the provisions.    Each ISOFIX position is defined according fixtures : 3 rearward facing and 2 forward facing.    If an ISOFIX position is provided on front side passenger seat protected with a frontal airbag, a deactivation device shall be fitted.

GRSP 13-17/05/2002 PROVISIONS REQUIRED FOR CAR (3) 3 Static tests are performed to check the strength of the anchorages and the excursion of the S-FAD :    1 test with the 3 anchorages, longitudinal, F= 8kN : no failure of anchorages and excursion limited to 125 mm    1 test with the 2 low anchorages, longitudinal, F= 8kN : criteria idem test 1.    1 test with the 2 low anchorages, oblique (75°), F= [5kN] : no failure of anchorages and excursion limited to [125 mm].

GRSP 13-17/05/2002 PROVISIONS FOR ISOFIX CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM    A new mass group is introduced in Regulation 44 : "1+" for kg children.    ISOFIX CRS design have to comply within the external dimensions of fixture(s).    Two tests are performed for Forward Facing ISOFIX Child Restraint :   Small dummy with the shorter distance of the top tether strap.   Heavier dummy with the longuer distance of the top tether strap.
