Research Journal Assignment

What is the task? Create an online research journal using a blog-hosting site of your choice, such as Word Press, Type Pad or BlogSpot. This blog must allow the teacher access at all times so they may monitor appropriateness and help you at all stages of your assessment. Each Monday an inquiry question will be posed surrounding what you will be learning that week, you will be given till Thursday to answer the inquiry question in your journal, using adequate research to justify their answers. Your responses are expected to be in proper essay format with Oxford Style citations. The responses should not exceed 600 words +/- 10%. All sources used in these journals should be scholarly sources unless otherwise approved by the teacher. You must use at least 5 sources each week but you may repeat sources from previous weeks twice. You will also be expected to create an annotated bibliography of all the sources you used in their journals this unit, this will be due a week before the summative assessment. Using these journals, you are expected to participate in a class discussion or activity once every two weeks. These class discussions will take part on the last class of the week and require you to formulate responses while using your research to justify your response. If you choose not to participate in any discussions they will not receive full marks for your journals. **You may use any resource that further illustrates your argument as long as you still meet the required word count. This means you can include drawings, mind maps, songs, videos etc. Using these sources would be useful if you are arguing a rather difficult topic. You will not be graded on these outside sources but if they enhance your argument, it will improve your responses in class discussions. **If you fail to complete an annotated bibliography you will not receive a passing grade on your journal. This journal is as much about you analyzing the sources you used as much as it is using research to justify your arguments. If you are having great difficulty completing your annotated bibliography please organize a meeting time with the teacher.

Annotated Bibliography Annotated Bibliography Requirements: You must answer the following questions in your annotated bibliography in paragraph form: >Who are the authors of your source and what are their credentials? >What does the source focus on and how useful is it? >Are there any biases present? >What historiography do you feel this source represents?
