 Where and when did the first flight ever take place?  The first flight took place in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, on a beach, in 1903  Wilbur and Orville Wright (brothers) created the first airplane.  Made of wood and canvas and only flew a small distance!

 People became inspired to build their own planes.  New materials would begin to be used in the construction of these newer airplanes.  Planes could now travel longer distances and at higher speeds.  Helped businesses like the postal service.

 First commercial passenger plane built it only held 10 passengers!  This plane could make smooth takeoffs and landings  WWII led to innovation in planes  As a result, Jet airplanes begin to become more common in military and commercial use.

 Airplanes are one of the most common methods of travel throughout the world.  In 2010, Atlanta, GA airport sees over 89 million passengers!!  Airplanes are bigger, lighter, and stronger than ever before!  Some planes can fly over 9,000 miles at once

Airplanes can now fly longer distances due to decreased weight. New Emphasis being placed on the customer experience.

 In groups, you are going to become experts on one of three areas of transportation:  The Erie Canal  The Transcontinental Railroad  The Automobile  You will then mix groups to share your expertise with others.
