Chapter 1: Tools of Geometry 1-2 Drawings, Nets, & Other Models
Objectives To make isometric and orthographic drawings To draw nets of three-dimensional figures
Isometric Drawing “isos” = equal “metron” = measure All 3-D measurements are scaled equally Use isometric dot paper to show three sides of a figure from a corner view
Example 1 Make an isometric drawing of the cube structure on page 10 of your book.
Orthographic Drawing Shows a top view, a front view, and a right-side view Like a blueprint of a building
Example 2 Make an orthographic drawing of the figure on page 11 of your book.
Foundation Drawing Shows the base of a structure and the height of each part Used for skyscrapers!
Example 3 Make a foundation drawing for the isometric drawing on page 11 of your book.
Nets Two-dimensional pattern that you can fold to form a three-dimensional figure Shows all of the surfaces of a figure in one view
Example 4 What figure will this net make?
Example 5 Draw a net for the graham cracker box.
