Welding and Oxy – Acetylene Cutting Equipment and Safety
Objectives Identify equipment used in welding and oxy- acetylene cutting. Use proper safety procedures when welding and oxy- acetylene cutting. Identify safety equipment used in welding and oxy- acetylene.
Welding Equipment Power source 110 unit 220 unit 440 unit Diesel unit
Oxy- Acetylene Equipment Torch Regulator Hoses Striker Tip cleaner
Safety Equipment Long sleeve shirt Long pants Foot wear Safety glasses Gloves Helmet
Welding Safety Always wear proper clothes when welding Place ground lead on material before turning machine on. Check cables for cuts in the insulation. Never stand in water when welding. Never use gloves to pick up hot material. Never weld near flammable objects.
Oxy- Acetylene Safety Make sure regulators are tight. Never use oily rags around cylinders and regulators. Check hoses for leaks before lighting the torch. Make sure regulators are at proper settings. 15 psi max. acetylene 40 psi max. oxygen
Continued Make sure mixing knob is off before lighting torch. Light acetylene first then mix oxygen. Do not pick up material with gloves after it is cut. Cut off cylinders when through cutting.
Review Why does one wear a long sleeve shirt when welding? How high can the acetylene regulator be set? When must one use safety when cutting or welding?
