All About Fireflies A Group Project by: Lori Peace, Jewel McKenzie Elizabeth Smalls, and Mark Jackson

Facts of the Firefly Native to the family of beetles or Lampyridae species of this bug exist in warm to hot environments around the world. Other names for the firefly include: lightning bugs, glow worms.

Light Production and Function Chemical under the abdomen allows tail to light up for defensive purposes. Bugs light up to attract prey and mates. Uses of light chemical include: glowsticks, chemical and genetic research focusing on tuberculosis and malaria.

Eating Habits Fireflies eats slugs, snails, worms, and occasionally other species of fireflies. The head of the firefly is the only edible part, as the tail has a bitter taste due to the chemicals that make it light up. It is the choice of dinner for frogs and spiders.
