Key documents 2

Categories of Dual Credits Team-taught College-delivered 3 Dual Credit Policy page 7

Team-Taught Dual Credit Courses Closely matched college or apprenticeship and secondary curriculum content Taught by both a college professor or instructor and a secondary school teacher. No maximum number of credits Could be any Ontario curriculum course, including compulsory courses 4 (Dual Credit Policy p. 8)

Team-taught Dual Credit Courses Assessment and evaluation of the Ontario curriculum course is done by the secondary school teacher Growing Success applies 5 (Dual Credit Policy p. 19)

Team-taught Dual Credit Courses Credit for the secondary school course is recorded on the OST using the code for the secondary school Ontario curriculum course. The term dual credit appears in parentheses. “T” appears in the Note column Credit for the college course is recorded on a college record. 6 (Dual Credit Policy p. 15)

The Ontario Student Transcript Manual, 2013 (See sample 9, page 36) 7

College-delivered dual credits Students take a college course or Level 1 apprenticeship program. College courses do not need to have any connection to Ontario curriculum courses Credit is recorded on the college record using college course codes 8 (Dual Credit Policy p.7)

College-delivered dual credits Credit is also recorded on the OST using a special dual credit course code assigned by the Ministry of Education. Codes end with “4T” for college courses, “4Y” for level 1 apprenticeship Be sure to select the right college. The same code may be used by more than one college. The passing grade may vary 9

College-delivered dual credits For college courses, selecting the correct code will ensure that the name of the college, the college course title and the college course code appear correctly on the OST. The correct passing grade will be assigned Students must achieve that passing grade in order to earn credit 10 (Dual Credit Policy p. 15) (Dual Credit Policy p. 19)

11 College-Delivered Dual Credit Course Codes Same course code, but different colleges

The Ontario Student Transcript Manual, 2013 See sample 9, page 36 12

Since the student did not achieve that grade, he does not receive a credit, even though his mark is above 50%.

College-delivered dual credits For level 1 apprenticeship courses, the name of the college does not appear on the OST. “Level 1 App” followed by the TCU name of the apprenticeship and the TCU code The default passing grade is 60% If the passing grade is not 60%, users must select the appropriate college title 14 (Dual Credit Policy p. 15)

15 When the course is added, a check is done to see if more than one description exists for the course code. If it does, then a box appears to the right of the course code. The user can open the drop down list and select whichever course description is valid. A Dual Credit College-Delivered College Course

16 A Dual Credit Class With No Educator Assigned

17 A Dual Credit Class with a Teacher Assigned

College-delivered dual credits Level 1 apprenticeship courses are all multiple-credit courses If students do not successfully complete the entire program, partial credit can be granted. The college instructor and the dual credit teacher would jointly make that decision The word “partial” appears on the OST after the name of the Level 1 program (OST manual p. 11) 18

19 Date Year Month Course Grade Course TitleCourse Code Percentage Grade CreditCompulsoryNote LEVEL 1 APP A: Cook 415A (Partial)TKA4Y LEVEL 1 APP A: Carpentry 403ATSA4Y OST Showing College-delivered Level 1 Apprenticeship TKA4Y has a value of 3 credits. This student did not successfully complete the program but was awarded 1.5 credits. Note that “partial” appears after the Course Title. TSA4Y has a value of 2 credits. The student successfully completed the Level 1 program.

College-delivered dual credits Maximum of 4 can count as optional credits towards the OSSD External music credits are included in the 4 credit maximum Assessment and evaluation are the responsibility of the college instructor Growing Success does not apply 20 (Dual Credit Policy p. 8) (Dual Credit Policy p. 19)

College-delivered dual credits If a student earns more than 4, only 4 will show on the OST; all will show on the provincial report card. The process is outlined on page 12 of the OST manual 21

Reporting through Class Enrolment College-delivered dual credit classes can be created without an educator if necessary Ensures consistency of report card, OST, transmission to OCAS and OUAC Allows tracking of credits earned vs credits attempted Courses count towards student’s FTE 22

23 Dual Credit Placeholder Code Select either the OOO4X or YYY4X option from the dropdown list Uncheck the credit flag

Reporting through Other Credits Courses could be missed in transmissions to OCAS Doesn’t generate dual credit teacher funding through the GSN 24

25 Dual Credit manually entered in the Transcript Information window in Add Course/Section Reporting through Other Credits

26 “Final Mark” field must be entered “Attempted Credit” and “Earned Credit” fields in the Course tab must be verified to make sure that the correct value is entered. Reporting through Other Credits
