Assessment & Evaluation TF/TL Standard IV CPED 5406 Johnson Bible College Dr. Tony Krug

Assessment Technology Topics Assess student learning of core content & differentiate instruction based on individual needs Assess student technology literacy Collect, store, analyze / interpret & report data for school improvement Evaluate the implementation of technology programs

Assessing Student Learning Accountability = centerpiece of education –Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) / NCLB Regular, systematic, reported Computer Based Testing –Immediate feedback –Mastery learning approach –Adaptive computer-based learning, per IEP –Computer based standardized testing = better response time Computer based creativity, learning in depth

Assessing Technology Literacy How? Ethical, accurate, insightful use Technological literacy required by end of 8 th grade – but practices still weak. Stand alone vs embedded models in content cores Emphasis on core content areas favors embedded –Calls for federal funding –Professional organizations involved – ISTE, Consortium for School Networking (CoSN), St Ed Tech Dir Assoc (SETDA) –Other organizations – Partnership for 21 st Century Skills Technology = core domain, similar to writing, across curriculum – Implications for coordination

Data Collection & Analysis Store, Manage, Analyze, Report - educational decision making Data collected/Stored:  Student assessment  Transcripts  Attendance Records  Health Information  Disciplinary actions  Student demographics  Scheduling Cross linked to/Managed:  Finance  Human Resources  Transportation  Nutrition Data Analysis:  Trends  Correlation development  Comparisons Communication/Reporting: Administrative venues Teachers Parents

Evaluating Educational Technology Technology Concerns: Underused Practice unchanged Weak evidence on impact in learning Traditional methods better High costs Drains funds from other areas Needs to address: Defining technology Variable outcomes result from variable use Hard to isolate technology in school Technology supports different types of learning than traditional
