Animal Rights By: Law YiTing(10) Cordelia Lee (11) Lee JingWen (12)

Animal Rights To many people today, animals are seen as nothing more than a childhood pet, a mere source of education, or even a useless annoyance. To other people, animals are beautiful, exquisite creatures that should be protected and cherished. Animal Rights is a movement that intends to protect all animals from being exploited and abused by humans. This includes the use of animals for anything that causes them pain and suffering, such as medical experimentation, imprisonment in circuses and zoos, and fur production. The Animal Rights movement has very different objectives than animal welfare groups. While welfare activists fight for a more humane treatment of animals in general, animal rights activists want animals to be considered as individuals, rather than property.welfare Groups that work for animal rights often cover areas such as the fur and wool industry, aquariums and zoos, testing on animals (both medical and for the cosmetic industry), and pets. Many animal rights advocates are also vegetarians, since the use of animal as a food source is discouraged. While this is not a requirement, it is becoming standard among activistswool

What is animal rights? To begin here is a selection of basic definitions from on-line dictionaries, encyclopedia and other sources: The rights to humane treatment claimed on behalf of animals, especially the right not to be exploited for human purposes. The free Dictionary Animal rights, also referred to as animal liberation, is the idea that the most basic interests of animals should be afforded the same consideration as the similar interests of humans." wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_rights wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_rights The fundamental principle of the modern animal rights movement is that many nonhuman animals have basic interests that deserve recognition, consideration, and protection. In the view of animal rights advocates, these basic interests give the animals that have them both moral and legal rights. Encyclop æ dia Britannica. 2007britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/25760/animal-rightsbritannica.com/EBchecked/topic/25760/animal-rights The basis of all animal rights should be the Golden Rule: we should treat them as we would wish them to treat us, were any other species in our dominant position. Christine Stevens...animal rights must not only be an idea but a social movement for the liberation of the world's most oppressed beings, both in terms of numbers and in the severity of their pain. Steven Best

Animal Testing. In some countries, animals are being cut open/killed just for the purpose of researching. Ranging of 10 of millions to more than a 100 million of animals used annually. Animals ranging from mice to cats.

In Singapore, In Singapore, we have SPCA which stands for Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The objectives of SPCA is to promote kindness to animals and birds as well as preventing cruelty to animals and birds in singapore. We also have campaign like the prevention of shark finning and the abusing of dolphins. Held talks in school to give awareness about the animal abuse Give rewards to anyone who found anyone who abuses animals Fun Fact : More than 1000 cases of animal cruelty in Singapore in 2010 and it went by 15% in 2011!

Campaign in Singapore Prevention of shark finning Prevention of cutting the fins of sharks and throwing them back into the sea NO to abusing of dolphins in Sentosa Stop the dolphins from performing in Sentosa

Overseas In Wheatland, a pig was being kicked around, swinging sick piglets in circles by their hind legs, and sitting and bouncing on a mother pig who has a broken leg and screams in pain. The whole process was recorded down and uploaded to Youtube which about a quarter million people watched it.

What can we do to prevent this? Make sure that the pet owners are responsible and take good care of their pets. Adopt an animal instead of buying one.

The End~ Thank you!
