Preparing for Romeo and Juliet Coursework

Explore the ways Romeo and Juliet are presented in Act, Scene 2 and elsewhere in Shakespeare’s play and one of the performed versions. Explore means HOW…you have analyse evidence Ways means methods in structure and language and prosodic features This act is the focus of your essay and should be analysed in the most detail…about 40% of your essay At least one other areas must be analysed for Romeo and one other area for Juliet. Have at least two other areas. Select areas where the characters have evolved The play and audio version must be discussed. 60/40 or 70/30. But mostly language and structure.

What you have to do Write a sustained, personal and analytical response to the question Max 1200 words Do what the question asks

Introductions Should provide some context to the play (plot, character, setting, themes) Provide insight into what areas of the play will be discussed Should rephrase the question Must explicitly outline what was studied— Shakespeare’s play and the Arkangel audio version of the play, 2003

Steps One—read over material (notes, text, paragraphs done in class and/or for homework) One—identify what areas of the play you want to analyse (go through your notes and work) Three—Listen to the audio and make note pages; Read the text and make note pages on language/structure techniques Four—Read over your targets and your notes…make sure your notes reflect that you are meeting your targets. Five—You could write an essay and get some peer feedback.

Homework and Controlled Assessment Start Date Homework is to make note pages Controlled Assessment will begin on Monday…you can only use your note pages (no written paragraphs or class handouts) and a clean copy of the text Up to four hours to write the piece.
