EXAMPLE 2 Standardized Test Practice

SOLUTION EXAMPLE 2 Standardized Test Practice Place the center of the protractor on the vertex of the angle. Then line up BC with the 0 ° mark on one of the scales. In this case, it’s the inner scale. Using the same scale, read the measure where the other ray crosses the protractor. BA crosses the inner scale slightly past the 120° mark. So, the measure of ABC is 122°, which you can write as m ABC = 122°.

ANSWER EXAMPLE 2 Standardized Test Practice The correct answer is D.

EXAMPLE 3 Drawing Angles Use a protractor to draw an angle that has a measure of 54°. STEP 1Draw and label a ray. STEP 2 Place the center of the protractor at the endpoint of the ray. Line up the ray with the 0° line. Then draw and label a point at the 54° mark on the inner scale.

EXAMPLE 3 Drawing Angles STEP 3 Remove the protractor and draw KL to complete the angle.

GUIDED PRACTICE for Examples 2 and 3 4. Measure PQR at the top of page 460. ANSWER 30° 5. Draw a 145° angle. ANSWER See margin for art.
