Levels of Organization
Cell division and embryonic stem cells. Egg cell Sperm cell.
Learning Targets I can describe cell specialization and levels of organization. I can identify how levels of organization work together in an organism.
Cell Specialization Remember..... All living things are made of cells!!! Cells can specialize into different cell types Cells  tissues  organs These.
KEY CONCEPT The human body has five levels of organization.
The Organization of Living Things. Key Concept As multicellular organisms develop, their cells differentiate (change & separate) and form levels of organization.
What are Stem Cells? Biological cells found in multicellular organisms, that can divide and differentiate into diverse specialized cell types.
CELL DIFFERENTIATION 4-4 Notes. Differentiation Cells not only divide by mitosis to make 2 daughter cells, but they also differentiate. Differentiation.
CHAPTER 5.5 Multicellular Life. Interactions All multicellular organisms are made of different kinds of cells. All types of cells need to fit and work.

Levels of Organization The smallest unit of matter is an atom. The cell is the basic unit of structure and function in living things. While there are.
Cell Specialization All cells carry the same DNA information but they do not perform the same functions and may not look the same. The process of a cell.
Cell Specialization, Organization and Function. Cell Specialization Cells specialize to carry out specific functions in an organism. Cells come in a variety.
Hierarchy of organization Cells → Tissues → Organs → Organ Systems → Organism.

Specialized Cells 50 – 75 Trillion cells in your body
Zygote: fertilized cell created by the union of the egg and sperm Embryonic stem cells –Created during earliest divisions –Potential to become any type.
Tissues: Beyond Cells. All cells come from previously existing cells. One fertilized egg (zygote) undergoes mitosis many, many times to produce a baby.

Cell Differentiation – Stem Cells how specialized cells get produced controlled by the cell’s DNA stem cells are animal cells that can differentiate into many cell types 2 types of stem cells: Embryonic – can differentiate into any kind of cell Tissue – can only differentiate into certain types of cells, ex. umbilical cord blood

SPECIALIZED CELLS Many complex organisms, such as a human being or a maple tree, begin life as a single fertilized egg or a single cell. The cells in a complex organism are not all identical. They perform different functions so have a different designs or are specialized.specialized

SPECIALIZED CELLS Plants also have specialized tissues Structural Differences in Specialized Cells
