Gender equality is smart economics

Gender budgeting is an application of gender mainstreaming in the budgetary process

Incorporating a gender perspective at all levels of the budgetary process

What is gender budgeting? It is a way of linking gender equality policy with macro economic policy

What is gender budgeting? It is based on the premise that budgets are not gender neutral

What is gender budgeting? It applies both to revenue and expenditure

What is gender budgeting? It begins with an analysis of the impact of the budget on women and men, and then aims to integrate gender into budget planning

What is gender budgeting? It is a way of doing gender mainstreaming

What is gender budgeting? It does not mean a separate budget for women

What is gender budgeting? It allows for better targeting and therefore more efficient allocation of public expenditure

What is gender budgeting? It calls for the participation of a broder range of stakeholders and thereby deepens the democratic process

What is gender budgeting? Its ultimate goal is that gender is mainstreamed
