Globalization is the flow across national boundaries of goods and services, capital, people, technology, ideas, and culture.

 Most overpowering force of the 20th century is GLOBALIZATION  What happens in globalization? Flow of People, Goods, Ideas Flow of Insects, Disease Vectors, Viruses Economic, Political, Cultural, Social & Health Impacts Does globalization sound like a positive change?

 Globalization encompasses:  Financialization  form of capitalism in which financial markets dominate over the traditional industrial economy  Deterritorialization  Regional, national and continental organizations pressure to integrate the world in one economic system  Multinationalism (increase of global corporations)  Internationalization (increase of trade and investment)  Liberalization (freeing markets)  Technological Changes (IT Revolution)  Universalization (increased cultural exchange)  Westernization (Western cultural dominance)

 Read the handout on “Globalization” and answer the assigned questions. We will then discuss the pros and cons of globalization.
